Networking your office and home computer allows you to share information and files which might be important for you. Through networking you can connect thousands of machines together. For a small network, the Windows workgroup allows you to share information in your home and office. A mapped network drive is created to move information from machine to another. This allows you to read, edit and save information which is similar to working files on your local and physical hard drive.
For this right-click on “My Network Places” on your desktop. If you have Windows Vista or 7 then the icon will be labeled as “Network”. Now select “Map Network Drive” from the menu. Now enter the location of the remote computer drive. It will be something like this \\computer_name\c$ into the text box if you want to access information from the “C” drive of your computer. Now replace “ computer_name” with the name of your computer. Just remember that, the “C” drive has dollar sign suffix. Now click on
“Finish”. The network
drive is mapped to your machine. Now double-click on “My Computer” from your
PC’s desktop to verify if it is complete and start downloading the files from
